NOW INTRODUCING THE PACIFIC GIRLCHOIR

COMMITMENT

Pacific Boychoir Academy (PBA) believes involvement in choir promotes children understanding deeply the importance of collaboration and offers them opportunities to develop leadership skills at a very young age through musical experiences. Music supports simultaneous spatial, temporal, physical, and aural processing increasing language and mathematical skills while promoting listening and focus; this also develops left/right brain connection and encourages sensory integration.

TEACHING

Our method of teaching transforms early years into a time of "high purpose" building self-confident young men and women who take pride in their accomplishments. Our standard of excellence is transferred directly from the classroom to the stage. The performance opportunities reinforce teamwork, build confidence, foster maturity, self-control and demonstrate the importance of striving for excellence.

PBA offers week-long summer camps for various age and experience levels. All provide a safe, nurturing environment to build relationships, learn personal responsibility, develop musical skills, and enjoy the outdoors. This is a great way to keep choristers mentally, physically, and artistically engaged during school breaks, getting them excited about the arts and going back to school. Led by choir alumni counselors and PBA's world-class staff, choristers enjoy as much fun and learning, in one week, as they would experience in two months of regular rehearsals!

PBA OFFERS SEPARATE CAMPS FOR BOYS AND GIRLS AS OUR ENSEMBLES TRAIN AND PERFORM SEPARATELY

It is our policy to defer gender determination to the chorister.

UNPARALLELED THEORY SYSTEM

PBA has developed an incremental music theory system which is unparalleled. In addition to daily rehearsals, we provide sequential, skills-based voice, theory, and musicianship. When students graduate from PBA Day School and After School programs, they would have achieved the equivalent of a College level music theory knowledge. Our Child/Teacher Ratio: Day School 1:6 Camps 1:15, helps students excel.

PBA'S COMPREHENSIVE TEACHING METHODS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Instructor Led - The instructor interfaces with the students by presenting segments of instruction, questioning the students frequently, and provides periodic summaries.

Demonstration- The student observes the technique.

Practical Exercises - A method of training in which the student actively participates, either individually or as a team member. He or she does this by applying previously learned knowledge or skills. All students actively participate although they may work at their own rate.

Practice Method - Students (alone or as part of a team effort ) repeatedly perform previously learned actions, sequences, operations, or procedures.

CHALLENGING KIDS AND DISCIPLINING METHODS

At PBA Day School, we want to provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for every student to grow and flourish. The formation of character is at the core of our Mission. Our faculty cares and is attentive to the attitudes and behaviors of the students. We constantly seek to reinforce values, such as personal discipline, teamwork, confidence and community engagement. We strive to teach children that time and place can determine the appropriateness of behaviors. PBA believes that it is particularly important that the work of supporting students in this area of character development be done in partnership with parents; each supporting the other whenever possible.

Behavior Expectations:

Respect yourself: - Be honest and truthful- Give your PERSONAL BEST in behavior- Monitor your behavior and accept responsibility for your actions

Respect others: - Use courteous language- Listen to and acknowledge diverse opinions respectfully- Perform acts of courtesy and kindness- Arrive on time- Arrive ready to learn, with materials

Respect your environment: - Stay in areas designated for students- Treat the building, grounds, furniture, equipment, books and supplies with care- Take responsibility for cleaning up after yourself

Behavioral expectations based on these and other values are clearly articulated and reinforced by faculty at every opportunity. The faculty approaches the formation of character with an educational mentality. They first teach desired values and behavior; provide positive reinforcement when students model appropriate behaviors balanced alongside bringing awareness to when behaviors are not aligned with expectations; and lastly, to have the student sit out of an activity if necessary, write a reflection and through discussion offer them the opportunity to rejoin the group as a positive contributor.

TEACHERS

Our camp teachers are seasoned educators with 5 to 30 years of experience as music educators. Our artistic & choral directors are recognized leaders in vocal pedagogy and childhood education and will teach your child everything they need to know to be successful in a choral ensemble. Our PBA camp counselors are PBA Alumni both high school and college aged, our Sorella camp counselors are college aged music majors. All adult staff members have completed background checks.8.

ETHNIC MIX
