Boo-Camp: Jack-O-Lantern Lore and Pumpkin Caving

Join Homeroom Education for a pumpkin filled day out at Bob’s Pumpkin Farm in Half-Moon Bay where we will be teaching students about the history, lore, and traditions of pumpkin carving. Your enrollment fee covers all curriculum, a take home activity book, and a pumpkin for carving (your choice, any size)! We will also provide all supplies necessary for carving creative faces into your chosen pumpkin.

In this fun, and extremely hands-on 3-hour workshop, students will learn why we carve pumpkins for Halloween. Learners of all ages will be delighted by the spooky lore and fairy-tales related to the origins of Jack-O-Lanterns.

After our interactive history discussion students, and parents, will have the chance to tromp through the pumpkin patch in search of that perfect gourd. Once everyone has found their ideal pumpkin it’s back to the tables for a carving lesson. We will discuss faces, shapes, tools, and techniques while students design their unique canvases.

Once everyone has finished carving, studentd and parents can enjoy the lunches they brought with them and a scavender hunt around the farm while our Homeroom Education judges assign prize ribbons to the pumpkins (each student pumpkin will be honored for its individual unique qualities). The day will then wrap up with the award ceremony and some fun and spooky Jack-O-Lantern photos!

Please Note: We will be using carving knives and drills that could cause injury if used improperly. All students under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult who can help them carve their pumpkin. Paint will also be available for students/parents who prefer to paint rather than carve their pumpkins.
