Why: A woman? In the venerated Explorers Club? Catch the mayhem that unfolds in 1879 London as The Explorers Club is beset by not just a woman, but poisonous snakes, exotic plants, bar-rending savages and crazed Irishmen! Nell Benjamin’s comedy hit The Explorers Club has delighted audiences across the nation, and now it’s San Jose’s turn to enjoy the madcap madness.

"In her hijinks-happy cocktail THE EXPLORERS CLUB, Nell Benjamin follows this recipe: To a starchy bunch of science geeks bemoaning the worst barkeep in London, add a plucky adventurer and her discovery, a trouble-making tribesman. Then shake, stir, serve in an eye-catching vessel, and brace for laughter." —NY Daily News.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

THE DIRECTOR: Jerry Lloyd

THE CAST: Bret-Jordan, C. Conrad Cady, Kurt Gravenhorst, Kevin Kirby, Andre Leben, Robert Lewis, J.J. Martinez, Jason Minsky, Ron Packard, Anthony Silk, and starring Heather Skelley as the female explorer who upsets the male-only world of the Explorers Club.

THE STORY: The setting: London, 1879. The prestigious Explorers Club is in crisis: their acting president wants to admit a woman, and their bartender is terrible. True, this female candidate is brilliant, beautiful, and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundation of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink? Grab your safety goggles for some very mad science involving deadly cobras, irate Irishmen and the occasional airship. ”A laugh riot!” — San Diego Story

Tabard Theatre (formerly Theatre on San Pedro Square) — The Destination for Arts Discovery —  is located in the heart of historic San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose amid a bustling restaurant district. This intimate and unique venue brings a touch of Manhattan to the South Bay with its rustic yet edgy feel. Old brick walls, plush leather seats, antique wood plank floors, sweeping red velvet drapes and a 35-foot mahogany bar create a casual cabaret atmosphere. The full bar also offers a variety of food choices that may be enjoyed while watching the show.
