Technique and Variations with Prashant Shah

This 4 day intensive is designed to build the dancer’s body awareness, endurance, and hone execution of kathak chakkars and footwork within the structure of a tukda. The focus will be on using variations of the body that can show both the versatility of kathak and challenge the dancer in new and unique ways.
Prashant Shah, one of the senior disciple of Padma Bhushan Smt. Kumudini Lakhia, is one of few critically acclaimed male performer-choreographers now based in New York.
The first recipient (for Kathak dance) of Sangeet Natak Akademi's Yuva Puraskar award, Prashant has performed in over forty countries as a leading member of Kadamb’s prestigious performing unit. Prashant has been working at the prestigious ARYA DANCE ACADEMY in the USA as the head of the Kathak department for over more than a decade. Prashant is a TOP grade artiste at ‘Doordarshan Kendra’ and an empaneled artiste in the established category of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi. Often commissioned internationally to work with other dance styles like Hip Hop, Belly Dancing, Flamenco, Bharatanatyam, Modern and Contemporary dance, he has received rave reviews in newspapers such as the Hindu, Statesman, New York Times, Star Ledger, Guardian, Independent, San Francisco Chronicle, and Dancing Times.

$300 for the entire workshop
If you are unable to attend 3-4 days of the workshop and would like to request to attend just 1-2 days, please email classes@navatman.org with the days you would like to come. We will place you on a waitlist and let you know two weeks before the workshop start date to let you know if there is space available and provide a prorated fee.
