ABOUT THE PLAY
Kalidas returns home from his powerful position in the Gupta kingdom to the people he had left behind. Mohan Rakesh’s classic is set in the 4th century to beautiful Hindi prose and poetry, and is often considered the first modern Hindi play. It was awarded the Sangeet Naatak Akademi award for best play; a film based on the play received the Filmfare Critics Award.
