A true eco hero

Twelve years old Pavan Raj Gowda, is a passionate environmentalist. He has been recognized by the President of the United States, for his outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship. He is a true inspiration for kids all around the world. Pavan says, “I truly believe that to achieve a cleaner and healthier planet, it is not enough, if one child, or one group, or one community is taking action. We need kids from all around the world from every community to take on leadership and drive their community to protect our precious planet.”

In 2009 Pavan started “Green Kids Now, Inc.” (http://greenkidsnow.org). He did so because he observed people mistreating the planet and wanted kids to take action. Part of his goal is to assist schools to obtain Green Star School status to lead in environmental sustainability. He works with principals and with the Green Kids teams at schools. He feels sharing of information is extremely important, “we do not have to waste time reinventing the wheel,” he says. He works to show other kids how to take action and bring them the opportunities they need to implement their ideas.

Pavan recognized the need for a conference dedicated for children to accelerate their learning on environmental issues, make them aware of available resources and opportunities, and also to promote, encourage, and reward new innovative ideas from children. A Green Kids Conference that he planned and led in 2011 had over 800 attendees and he is now organizing another on June 10th, 2012, which is being sponsored by Microsoft Corporation.
