AIA celebrates India’s 75th Independence Day ‘Swades’ in a grand way in California

Association of Indo American’s (AIA), & Bolly 92.3 presented “Swades” celebrating India’s 75th Independence Day “Amrit Mahotsav” in Milpitas CA. It was a unique festival, first of its kind and is supported by over 35 Indian organizations in Bay Area. This year Swades was refreshingly endearing, visually stunning, totally engaging, and entertaining with pure patriotism all around. All the covid precautions were taken and invitations were limited.

The event started at 3 PM and went all the way till 7 PM.

One of the key mottos of Swades is to showcase and propagate Indian Culture and Art forms. Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak & Classical dances (by kids and adults), non stop Foot tapping Bollywood and regional dances thoroughly entertained the audience. BATA karaoke team also presented patriotic & peppy songs.

Flag-hoisting ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries including Consul General of India Dr. T.V Nagendra Prasad, Assembly members Ash Kalra, Alex Lee, Fremont Mayor Lily Mei, Milpitas Mayor Rich Tran, Supervisors David Haubert, Otto Lee,  Council members Raj Salwan, Raj Chahal, Sridhar Verose, Karina Dominguez, Jayaram Komati (Community leader) and other officials.

Following the flag-hoisting and dignitaries addressed the gathering, conveyed their wishes to the 75th India Independence and applauded AIA efforts in preserving Indian culture. They mentioned they are happy to see the patriotism and wondered if they were in India and congratulated the AIA team for making it a memorable event.

Over 35 community organizations representing all parts of India worked tirelessly to support AIA in making this event a grand success. AIA team also thanked all the sponsors for their continued support and the volunteers for their hard work and making the event a grand success.

The Association of Indo Americans is a non-profit organization providing a forum to explore the rich and diverse heritage of the Indian American community living in the United States. The mission of AIA is to foster and promote cultural and social interactions among its members, facilitate cultural events and educational programs pertaining to the Indian subcontinent, celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of the Indian subcontinent and share this rich culture with the community.
