The young, beautiful, and talented Bollywood singing sensation, Sunidhi Chauhan, lit up the stage on April 7, 2013, for the “Krazy 2” Live Concert held at the San Jose State University. A joint production with Pakistani musician, singer, and actor, Ali Zafar, the concert electrified the audience with high-energy performances and dazzling vocals.

Hosted by the Sankara Eye Foundation, the musical production served to raise funds for the organization’s forthcoming hospital in Rajasthan. Chauhan and Zafar both acknowledged this noble cause and expressed their full support and admiration. Indian Idol finalist, Rakesh Maini, set the tone for the night with his opening act of the recent box office success, “Challa.” After a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the audience, Sunidhi Chauhan blasted onto the stage, with the upbeat and vibrant notes of “Aisa Jadoo Dala Re.” Accompanying her vocals with energetic dance moves, Chauhan never failed to keep her audience members engaged and involved with her foot-tapping performances. Following her opening number with hit songs including “Halkat Jawani” and “Ainvayi Ainvayi,” Chauhan managed to attract fans of all ages, as they became mesmerized by her musical prowess and majestic presence.

Known for her husky yet profound voice, Chauhan surprised many with the slow, melodious, and more high-pitched tones of songs like “Ishq Sufiyana” and “Bin Tere.” Her versatility shone through her voice, as she impressed her audience with her ability to master an extensive range of notes.

After Sunidhi’s “Mind Blowing (Mahiya)” performance, the spotlight shifted to Ali Zafar. However, despite his persistent efforts to live up to Chauhan’s captivating performance, he could not enthrall the audience quite as well. Nevertheless, Zafar did his best to entertain the crowd with songs including “Roop Tera Mastana” and “London Paris New York.”

Blaming his flat stage presence and slightly lackluster voice on jetlag, he was not able to leave the same effect on the audience as Chauhan did. Yet, to his credit, he did put forth an appreciated attempt at connecting with the audience by jumping off the stage to mingle with his spectators. He finished off his performance with the renowned melodies of “Madhubala,” accompanied with high enthusiasm and energetic dance moves.

Sunidhi then re-entered the stage, as per the audience’s requests, with even more energy and vibrancy than before. She sang smashing hits, including “Desi Girl,” and even a duet performance of “Disco Deewane,” with Rakesh Maini, literally pulling everyone up on their feet, dancing.

However, some parents felt that the background dancers with revealing clothes were not necessary and they felt an unwanted intrusion. “It’s a little embarrassing and my 16 yearold- daughter actually felt sad for them,” said Lakshmi of Cupertino.

After almost three and-a-half hours of electrifying music, dynamic dancing, and enchanting vocals, the night was put to a close, with a magnificent duet by both artists. Audience members were left in awe, as they left craving even more.
