This class runs with combined experience levels. Beginners will receive an email from the instructor with introductory pastel exercises to prepare them for the first day of class.Soft pastels are an interesting medium because, unlike paint, all color mixing is done directly on the paper. But why is it called a pastel ‘painting’? Because the entire surface of the paper is covered with pastel, resulting in an artwork that resembles a traditional painting.This class will introduce students to basic techniques of using soft pastels as they work alongside the instructor to create landscapes, still lifes, animals and flowers. Learn to layer colors to create luminous, painterly effects. Beginners are guided as they work on the image provided each week; more experienced students may choose to work on an image of their choice. No prior experience is required.Note: Participants are expected to provide their own materials.
