In Person Art: where color moves
ARTIST PROFILE
Tom Zizzo is a Mill Valley based painter whose work explores color, structure, and emergence through layered oil paintings.. His practice draws on a background in science and graphic design, shaping a process grounded in careful observation and visual clarity. Influenced by the rhythms of the natural world his paintings are meant to be experienced slowly.
He uses interference paints not only as highlights, but as an added dimension of light, so the surface changes as the viewer moves, image is fixed, but the experience is not. Meaning is not fixed in advance but unfolds through looking, as the eye follows the accumulated paths that brought the image into being.
In an era dominated by digital reproductions, these interference oil paintings resist the screen. Their shifting light cannot be captured in a photograph. Color emerges as the viewer moves, transforming each encounter into a lived experience rather than a static image
