Tabard Theatre announces their hottest show of summer 2022 is coming back for New Year’s Eve. Last August, Nineteen brought one of the best in-concert R&B records of all time – Rufus and Chaka Khan’s double-album ‘Stompin’ At The Savoy’ — track for track, in its entirety, to the Tabard stage to an overwhelmingly enthusiastic standing-room only crowd. Now, for New Year’s Eve, they are back and bringing even more Chaka Khan songs, plus a bonus set of traditional big band songs to kick off the earlier part of the evening. The evening promises to be a night to remember as Nineteen Jazz Orchestra reunites with long-time collaborator Bay Area diva Juanita Harris to bring all the rhythm, soul and unrestrained energy of ‘Savoy’ back for a spectacular New Year’s Eve.

Tickets are available both to attend in-person and to livestream from home on Saturday, December 31 at 9pm. For those unable to experience the show live, the high-quality multi-camera recording will also be available On-Demand for 30 days following the show. Single tickets are $95 for Adults and $90 for Seniors and $125 for reserved Cabaret table seating. Livestream and on-demand  patrons are given the option to choose their own price point, starting at just $15. Patrons are encouraged to dress to impress, dress to decompress, or anywhere in between. Tickets include a complimentary champagne/cider toast at midnight, party favors and confetti poppers.

Chaka Khan and Rufus were an incendiary combination of a volcanic voice and an irresistible groove machine that lit up the US R&B charts in the 1970s. ‘Stompin' at the Savoy – Live’ reached #4 in the R&B Billboard charts. The show will include every track from this double-record set, including hits like "Tell Me Something Good", "You Got the Love", "Sweet Thing", "At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up)",  "Do You Love What You Feel,’  ‘What Cha' Gonna Do for Me’  ‘Once You Get Started,’  ‘One Million Kisses,’  ‘Try A Little Understanding’ and the Grammy-winning smash hit ‘Ain’t Nobody.’

Nineteen is San Jose’s only professional big band, led by veteran San Jose musician Gus Kambeitz. They have been performing at Tabard Theatre since 2010. Prior to their Tabard residency, the Nineteen have performed with numerous legendary jazz artists including Dave Liebman, Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, Carl Saunders, Brian Bromberg, and many others! Nineteen has also collaborated with Tabard Theater on three original World Premiere musical theatre productions, A Merry Little Christmas Cabaret,  Uptown Holiday Swing and Holiday at the Savoy.

Juanita Harris began studying piano at 6, then violin at 8, and guitar at 10. Attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Preparatory program, she excelled in music theory, opera, and string ensemble. She attended Humboldt State University where she continued her studies as a violin and piano major until a devastating carpal tunnel injury changed her focus from strings and piano to vocals. Juanita then continued her musical education at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied Music Business, Music Production and Engineering, and Songwriting. In 2004, she became a vocalist with The Jack Conway Trio and other Bay Area local bands and also developed her acting chops performing in local community theatre including several productions at Tabard. In 2013, a month-long trip to Paris turned into a year-long European stay. Founding The Juanita Harris Quartet, she became a headliner on the Paris jazz club scene and then made her way to Austria and Germany performing fundraising events for UNICEF.  In addition to performing throughout the Bay Area as a jazz soloist, she is presently a voice actor and has developed her own vocal studio emphasizing technique and performance.

Tabard Theatre (formerly Theatre on San Pedro Square) — San Jose’s “Hidden Gem” venue for the performing arts—  is located in the heart of historic San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose amid a bustling restaurant district.  This intimate and unique venue brings a touch of Manhattan to the South Bay with its rustic yet edgy feel. Old brick walls, plush leather seats, antique wood plank floors, sweeping red velvet drapes and a 35-foot mahogany bar create a casual cabaret atmosphere. The three-quarter round cabaret stage— described by artists as “a room that feels big and small at the same time” — is the perfect setting for live music and theatre.
