12th International Day of Yoga 2026 with Focus on Healthy Ageing and Community Wellness

 More than 100 community members gathered in Milpitas on Sunday, June 21, to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, embracing this year's global theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing."

The event was organized by the Consulate General of India, San Francisco, in collaboration with the Association of Indo Americans (AIA), Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center, Silicon Valley, and several supporting community organizations. The celebration took place at the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center in Milpitas and brought together participants of all ages and backgrounds to experience the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga and meditation.

Distinguished guests included Deputy Consul General of India Mr. Rakesh Adlakha, Milpitas Mayor Carmen Montano, Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan, and Sister Kusum of Brahma Kumaris, William Lam (Councilmember, Milpitas), Dipak Awasty (Planning Commissioner, Milpitas), Ajay Bhutoria (Indian Community Advocate), Rishi Kumar (Past Councilmember, Saratoga), Bama Cariapa  (Air India), Vandana Nair (Commercial Specialist, U.S. Consulate General in Dubai), Atma Dayal bhai, and many other community members, whose presence highlighted the growing impact and acceptance of yoga across diverse communities throughout the Bay Area.

The program featured guided meditation by Sister Kusum and yoga sessions led by Manoj Joshi and Ambili Sudhakaran, making the event accessible to both beginners and experienced practitioners. Participants engaged in practices designed to promote physical health, mental well-being, mindfulness, and healthy ageing.

As a proud co-hosting organization, the Association of Indo Americans (AIA) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting wellness, cultural understanding, and community engagement through initiatives that bring people together.

Speaking on the occasion, community leaders emphasized that yoga has evolved beyond a physical exercise and has become a global movement for holistic health, inner peace, and harmony. The event served as a reminder of yoga's enduring relevance in fostering healthier lifestyles and stronger communities. The enthusiastic turnout reflected the growing popularity of International Day of Yoga celebrations in the Bay Area and the increasing recognition of yoga's role in enhancing quality of life.
