Food Service Reopens at Children's Discovery Museum with Support from Neighboring Restaurant, iJAVA Cafe

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose has partnered with iJAVA Cafe to bring food and beverage service back to the Museum's FoodShed. Visitors have been enjoying coffee and pastry options at the Museum since mid-December as part of a soft launch, but starting Saturday, January 11, a full menu of additional food options will be available.

The updated “grab-and-go” menu includes parfaits, fruit, fresh salads, and sandwiches and wraps made from locally-sourced ingredients. With options for all, the menu appeals to those with dietary restrictions and preferences including halal, keto, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free.

“We believe it's easier to have good quality if you have fresh ingredients,” said iJAVA Cafe owner Nadir Ali. “We use all local vendors, local farms, to support the community, and now we get to be part of the Museum community. We are proud to be here, and it's an honor to be here.”

Food service at the Museum was forced to close during the pandemic, but with the pause in operations, it allowed the Museum to pursue a new vendor. Neighboring iJAVA Cafe, located on the other side of Highway 87 on Delmas Avenue, was an obvious choice that fit in with the Museum’s mission to serve healthy, nourishing food to fuel a full day of play.

“We are ecstatic to welcome iJAVA Cafe to the Museum’s FoodShed,” said Miguel Cisneros, Visitor Amenities Manager at the Museum. “We listened to our visitors and it was clear they wanted food options back at the Museum, so we were thrilled when we confirmed a partnership with our neighbors, iJAVA Cafe. It means a lot to us that we can offer healthy and delicious food options while also supporting our local community.”
