Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose and New Ballet

Offer Dance Alongs with Summer Partnership

Young Children and Their Parents Can Learn About the World of Classical Ballet

Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose and New Ballet are partnering together to introduce more children to the world of classical ballet in a safe and supportive environment where learning is always fun. Every Saturday starting July 3 through August 7, youngsters can participate in Dance Alongs led by professional dancers in the museum’s outdoor amphitheater. The Dance Alongs are included in the price of the museum’s admission fee.

“We’re so thrilled to offer our families the opportunity to learn more about the world of classical ballet from this innovative and excellent dance company,” said Marilee Jennings, executive director of Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose. “Introducing young children to the arts is vital to their development - that’s what makes this partnership so important and relevant for us. It’s also critically important that cultural organizations support each other as we all recover from the pandemic.”

“A summer partnership with Children’s Discovery Museum is the perfect way to celebrate the arts starting their return to San Jose,” said Dalia Rawson, artistic and executive director of New Ballet.  “We are thrilled to be again sharing the joy of movement and dance with local families. Ballet is a great way to reconnect with each other and with our bodies as we collectively move forward.”

The Dance Alongs are geared toward children ages two and a half to eight years old and will give youngsters a peek into the art form of ballet with professional dancers. Each 30-minute session will include an introduction to ballet, a dancing demonstration by the instructors, a dance along with the children, another demonstration by the instructors, and ending with bows from the children.

New Ballet is the institution Silicon Valley looks to for excellence in the art of ballet and a positive learning environment in which young dancers can grow and thrive. As the only American Ballet Certified School on the West Coast, New Ballet provides ballet instruction for children ages two and a half to adulthood, with a focus on inclusivity, dancer health, and child development.

Creativity through the arts is one of ten strategic commitments of Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose. The museum’s three-prong approach to the arts includes children watching and engaging with professional artists, experiencing the art of their peers, and creating their own art.
